Prepare Land Database Under Housing For All: Housing Ministry To States & UTs
Prepare land database to provide “Housing for All” under much-anticipated Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has asked all the States and Union Territories (UTs) for the construction of affordable housing projects. Housing for all is a government initiative where government set an objective to offer affordable houses by 2022 in most urban areas.
Primarily, the database will have all the information related to the availability of land in a region so it can be used for the development purposes. “Housing for All” under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is one of the most ambitious projects of the central government and hence, land database will accelerate it. The government has also asked states and UTs to prepare and share the roadmaps for the redevelopment of the slums in their areas in order to provide housing for all by 2022.
A day-long national workshop was held recently on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) (Urban) under Housing for All scheme, where suggestions were welcomed. In addition to the senior officials of the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, over 170 other participants attended the workshop.
To push the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) under “Housing for All” scheme, all the states and UTs were asked to execute those reforms which will ensure that the beneficiaries have valid land documents. For building permissions and layout approvals, the government has instructed to set a single-window time-bound clearance system. The states and UTs have also been asked to monitor the progress and promote of the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).
In the workshop, the government strongly emphasised to adopt technologies that are both innovative and disaster resistant, to accelerate the building work of the houses without compromising the construction quality. Presently, there is a shortage of over 1.2 crores in urban areas of India.
