Kurnool Master Plan 2031 has been created for Kurnool it is a city, former princely state and the headquarters of Kurnool district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The city is often referred as The Gateway of Rayalaseema. It was the capital of Andhra State from 1 October 1953 to 31 October 1956. As of 2011 census, it is the fifth most populous city in the state with a population of 460,184. Kurnool is located at 15.8333°N 78.05°E. It has an average elevation of 273 meters (898 feet).
Kurnool lies on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The Hundri and Neeva rivers also flow through the city. The K.C. Canal (Kurnool–Cuddapah) was built by the Dutch for transportation, but later used for irrigation.
Kurnool is well connected by road with State Capital Amaravati. It is in halfway between [[Hyderabad and Bengaluru. National Highway 44 (India) connects Kurnool to Hyderabad. The State Highway 51 connects to Srisailam, Vinukonda, Guntur, and Vijayawada. National Highway 40 (India) (new numbering) runs from Kurnool to Chittoor are the major highways passing through the city. The city has a total road length of 519.22 km.
Vision of Kurnool Master Plan 2031
The objective of the Kurnool Master Plan 2031 is to create enabling spatial and land use planning framework to achieve the Vision of Kurnool Master plan in order to promote, guide and rationalize. The future growth and development of the urban centers, it will be critical to define their growth framework. The future growth framework of the urban centers is defined by the Master Plan/Development Plans which are evolved for each settlement at individual level. Kurnool Master Plan 2031 has been considered as one of the most effective mechanism to promote planned growth of the urban centers. It lays down the road map, agenda and framework within which the city growth is envisioned. It provides a tool for the authorities to take decision with regard to current and future development related issues.
Kurnool Master Plan 2031 provides the framework for rationalizing the orderly movement of traffic and transportation within the city and defines the area for laying down net-work of various services. The plan is used for promoting integrated development of the urban centre by rationalizing its pattern of land use and their interrelationship. It also defines the strategies and solutions for overcoming the existing problems of the urban centers and to overcome its infrastructural and service related inadequacies. In addition, it provides options for accommodating the future addition to population which is likely to come to the urban centre due to natural growth and migration. Master Plan acts as a tool for determining the infrastructure cost which would be required to make the city sustainable. The plans offer futuristic solutions by laying down agenda for its growth and development.
