DDA to follow PMAY Guidelines Carpet Area Rule for its New Flats
DDA to follow PMAY Guidelines Carpet Area Rule for its New Flats. The carpet area of all new constructions will be as per specification prescribed under Pradhan mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), according to the commissioner (Land & Housing).
Now each economically Weaker Section (EWS) category flats will be built on 30 square metre (sqm) area, while Low Income group (LIG) dwelling units will be built on 40-60 square metre (sqm). Middle Income group (MIG) and Higher Income Group (HIG) flats will have carpet areas of 110 sqm and 130 square metre respectively.
It is because of the criticism faced by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) of small sized LIG flats, which were allotted during the 2014 Housing Scheme. Around 11,000 allottees later had surrendered their units as they found them too small.
Now the authority is making efforts to rectify past mistakes and planning accordingly, DDA has also decided to stick to uniformity when it comes to construction area of various category flats this time.
After three years also, the authority is getting applications for cancellation of allotment. Every day 40-50 files are being approved for cancellation. Few EWS flats were converted into LIG flats after carrying out retrofitting and changes. In future flats will be build as per the guidelines of PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana).
This decision will benefit the buyers, now if the guidelines and requirements of PMAY is followed, no small flats will be built. This will be helpful for both consumers and authority.
DDA Awasiya Yojana 2017, also has so far received only 5,000 applications under different categories. About 55,000 forms were sold in four weeks.
DDA Housing Scheme 2014 received 7.5 Lakh applications which launched in September 2014. Authority has printed 20 Lakh forms and about 17 Lakh were sold. On the launch day, about 30,000 forms were bought and within five days the number crossed two lakh mark.
